Hi Shelly! Thanks for the new site. Great information. I am an amature bird watcher with feeders throughout my yard that are being invaded by squirrels. I am with you, I really love squirrels ( I have a guinea pig who looks very squirrel like) but they eat all of the food-glutons!
I am a member of your qp site and have loved it over the years. My little qp died this last fall and I now only have my wild yard birds so this is such a treat for me to have a place to come and learn. Thanks again. Laura

Hi fellow calm birdwatchers,
I too feed birds year round and get a bit upset seeing the damage squirrels can do to the various feeders. However I have solved this 100% by making a 8 foot T-shaped frame made of old tent poles ,no longer used. I then drilled 6 holes along the top of the T, inserted little metal hooks to hang the several kinds of feeder containers, sunk the pole at least 1foot into earth ,wedged stones etc to stop it falling over.Next put a length of 6 inch drainpipe over the pole and hay-ho sit back and watch the squirrels look up at all that wonderful array of seeds ,nuts etc, cos thats all they can do -LOOK . You will see some paw prints near the bottom where they try to climb, but too bad. To refill ,I just stand on a stool and lift off the hooks.
Happy nature watching,
Dave
